When a Machine Part Is No Longer Available

A machine may remain productive long after an individual component becomes difficult to source.
Custom replacement manufacturing may be suitable when:
  • the OEM has discontinued the original part;
  • the original supplier is no longer available;
  • OEM lead time does not fit the maintenance schedule;
  • an older or custom machine uses a non-standard component;
  • a worn or damaged part needs replacing while the equipment remains worth keeping in service.

Manufacturing From Drawings and CAD Files

Send your customer-approved 2D engineering drawing and any supporting 3D CAD/STEP files. Together, the documents should define the geometry, material, tolerances and processing requirements.
When a requirement is not included in the CAD model, identify it on the drawing or in accompanying specifications.
An old machine drawing can be used when your engineering team has confirmed that it represents the required replacement and the machine’s current configuration. Relevant repairs, modifications and revision changes should be reflected in the approved documentation.
If the submitted files contain missing or conflicting manufacturing requirements, we will identify the items that need customer clarification before production.

Confirm the Design Before Replacing a Worn Part

The measured dimensions of a worn, corroded, deformed or previously repaired component may differ from its intended design dimensions.
Before submitting a replacement drawing, confirm the dimensions required by the existing assembly. A worn shaft diameter or damaged locating surface should not automatically become the manufacturing dimension for the new part.
YSBK manufactures to customer-approved documentation. The customer or their engineering provider establishes the design dimensions and confirms their suitability for the machine.

Critical Fits and Mating Features

Identify the features that determine whether the replacement will fit, align and function in the existing assembly.
Depending on the component, these may include:
  • bearing and bushing fits;
  • shaft diameters, bores and journals;
  • shoulders, locating diameters and keyways;
  • seal diameters and mating surfaces;
  • mounting-hole positions and center distances;
  • alignment and runout requirements;
  • threads and fastening interfaces;
  • installation clearances and critical overall dimensions.
Specify the required tolerances on the drawing so manufacturing and inspection can focus on the characteristics that matter to the assembly.

Materials, Hardness and Surface Requirements

Replacement components can be manufactured in carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, aluminum alloys and selected engineering plastics according to the agreed project requirements.
Specify the material grade and any required hardness, heat treatment, coating or surface finish. If these details are missing from an old drawing, have them confirmed before manufacturing.

Drawing Review and Inspection

Before production, we review the submitted files together with the material, quantity, critical features and processing requirements. Unclear or conflicting requirements are raised for customer confirmation.
Finished parts are inspected against the agreed drawing and manufacturing specifications.
Dimensional reports, hardness reports and material certificates can be provided when requested and confirmed in the quotation. Specify the reports and their scope in your RFQ, as testing and documentation requirements affect the quoted price.
If first-part fit or function must be checked in the actual machine, the customer should arrange that validation. Inspection against the drawing and validation in the operating assembly address different requirements.

One-Off, Low-Volume and Repeat Spare Parts

YSBK supports individual replacement components, small batches and repeat maintenance spares.
You may need one part for a repair, several pieces for multiple machines or additional components for future maintenance. Include the immediate quantity and any expected repeat requirement in your RFQ.
We can retain the approved drawing revision and agreed manufacturing requirements for repeat orders. If the design changes, provide the latest approved revision before the next production run.

What to Send for a Replacement Part RFQ

Drawing / CAD and Revision

Provide your approved 2D drawing, CAD/STEP file and applicable specifications. Identify the revision to be manufactured.

Machine Context and Part Function

Briefly explain what the component does and highlight important assembly or installation requirements.

Quantity

Include the immediate requirement and any additional maintenance spares.

Material and Processing

Specify the material grade, hardness, heat treatment, coating and surface finish where applicable.

Critical Dimensions and Fits

Identify tolerances and features controlling fit, alignment, sealing or assembly.

Inspection and Documentation

State whether you require a dimensional report, hardness report or material certificate. Include the required scope so it can be reflected in the quotation.

Required Timing

Provide the required delivery date or maintenance schedule, particularly when the order relates to equipment downtime.

Replacement Machine Parts FAQ

Can you manufacture parts for obsolete industrial equipment?

Yes. We manufacture one-off and low-volume mechanical replacement components for older industrial equipment and custom machinery when the manufacturing requirements are defined in customer-approved drawings, CAD files and specifications.

Do I need both a 2D drawing and a 3D CAD file?

Send both when available. A CAD model can define geometry, while the drawing or accompanying specifications should identify material, tolerances, processing and inspection requirements.
We review the submitted files to determine whether they sufficiently define the part for manufacturing.

Can I send a sample or worn part for you to copy?

YSBK does not accept physical samples or worn parts for measurement and does not provide drawing reconstruction.
If you only have an existing component, your engineering team or a reverse-engineering provider will need to prepare and approve the manufacturing documentation first. You can then send the files to YSBK for review and quotation.

What if the original drawing is incomplete?

Send the available drawing and specifications for review. We can identify manufacturing information that needs clarification, but missing design dimensions and requirements must be resolved and approved by your engineering team before production.

Are inspection reports and material certificates included?

Dimensional reports, hardness reports and material certificates are available when requested and confirmed in the quotation.
The required testing and documentation scope affects pricing, so please specify these requirements when submitting your RFQ.
